Shane Ozene was only 15 years of age when he collapsed and went into sudden cardiac arrest during basketball practice in 2011. Although efforts were made to resuscitate Shane, they were unsuccessful and Shane passed away. Shane's cause of death was hypertrophic cardiomyopathy which is the medical term for an enlarged heart muscle. This heart condition shows no symptoms 85% of the time and most times SCA (sudden cardiac arrest) is the first and only warning sign. This foundation is in the name of Shane to help save the lives of children who can potentially be victims of SCA. The foundation offers either free or low cost EKG screenings to young people, it advocates for AED placement where youth congregate and also teaches bystander CPR/AED training. This foundation was founded to prevent families from experiencing the same tragedy.
